Well
guys,
My kit was here waiting when I came home from work. I even
left work a little early because I was anxious to install
the kit. I already have the kit in, it was an incredibly easy
install. As a mechanical engineer myself, I can really say
good job guys.
Now the only downside is that we are getting scattered storms
this evening and I really want to go out and test it out with
the top down. So I'm keeping a close eye on the weather, and
I'm sure I will make it out between storms.
Thanks again for all of the help. And by the way, the blue
color of the filter is a lot better looking than pink.

Hey
Sean,
I installed the ECIS heat shield for my 96 ///M3 and it works
great! After driving around in this hot Hawaii weather, I
noticed the intake was much cooler to the touch in comparison
to the other engine components in the engine bay. Awesome
product!!! Thanks again!

Hi
Sean,
Just wanted to say thanks the intake arrived today and installed
easily. The extra effort you took in getting it to me in time
for my next track event was a true case of awesome customer
service. I took it out for a test run and it was awesome. I
instruct at NW BMW CCA and race BMWs and will tell all of the
great service and product. I have added your link to my car
pages and installed a couple stickers so people will know whose
system it is. Since my car pages are linked to from our CCA
club pages you will get some traffic. Here is the link. http://www.coolgunsite.com/bmw/index.htm
Thanks
again and I will be back for more upgrades!

I had been debating for the past month on which intake to
get. After much research and reading of everyone's posts,
I decided to go with the ECIS. For me it had all of the requirements
of an intake that I wanted: Good HP/Torque Gains, Easy Install,
Accesible filter for easy cleaning, and most importantly its
reasonable price.
So I got my package from Umnitza last week. It was a fairly
straight forward install that took less than 30 mins. Soon
after I was quick to take it out for a test drive in the streets
of Chicago. Immediately noticed the quicker throttle response
and the noticible torque gain. And as for the sound?... Was
lovin it! Especially at ~4500-6000 RPM's with the stock exhaust.
Had a mean growl-like sound that you'd expect to hear from
a Porsche.
Anyways... Seems like everyone's prediction came true. I am
getting bit by the Mod Bug. To think.. just a couple months
ago I more than content with my stock set-up. Kinda hard to
resist the temptation with everyone's posts on this board.
So... what mod next? Not sure. But definitely some sort of
performance mod. Perhaps the new Shark Chip when it becomes
available.

I
picked up the Ecis intake and had it installed in my car under
30 minutes. I must say that the intake performs awesome and
has an incredible sound. Also I have noticed my car even pulls
a bit harder now. Overall great product for the money especially
versus the "other" overpriced intakes available for the e46!
Thanks for making a great product over at Ecis Sean!

Installed
your cai on my 2001 325I this past weekend. I promise you I
am not the most mechanically inclined guy around, but the install
was a breeze even for me! Start to finish took about 30 minutes.
Looks and performs great. Very pleased with the results. Thanks.

I
put an ECIS intake on my 330 on monday eve, it took about 10
minutes, it definitely makes a differnce. The car feels like
it has a few extra hp and a little more pull. You can really
feel it just before 5500 rpm in each gear. Exhaust and engine
are a little bit louder only upon hard acceleration though.

Installed
the ECIS CAI on my '99 328i Monday. I have been driving it
for a couple of days. I also have installed the Shark injector
2 weeks ago (already posted review). My impressions:
FIRST THE INSTALL: Quite easy. The only thing I did
not like was the fact that the heat shield pressed up against
the headlight connector (I do not have Xenons)in front. Also,
because of this the heat shield bows a little bit inward and
the end cap of the K&N filter comes in contact with it. Also,
I noticed the end cap edge of the K&N filter lightly comes
in contact with the hood lining and the bottom contacts the
bottom of the engine comaprtment. In other words, the filter
just barely fits inside the alotted space. If it was 1/4 inch
smaller in diameter it would clear everything.
SOUND AT IDLE: I can barely tell a difference. I could
hear a small difference IF I was sitting in may garage with
the car windows down, no stereo, and the heater fan off. I
could hear the infamous "hiss" but it was faint even when
revved. With the car outside with everything off and the windows
down I could just barely hear it. If either the windows were
up, the stereo on, or if there was traffic (even with the
windows down) I could NOT hear it.
CONCLUSION AT IDLE (at least with ECIS and the 328i):
the hiss is a NON-issue. I would stop at traffic lights, parking
lots, etc. roll the windows down, turn off the fan and I had
to strain to hear it. I also did NOT hear any wierd noises
such as whistles, metallic sounds, etc. that have been reported
before (maybe this is with the Dinan CAI or the ECIS and the
330?). One thing I did notice: if you revved the engine from
idle to say above 2000 rpm and let off the gas quickly the
tach needle would drop below normal idle for a fraction of
a second then return to normal. I don't believe I had seen
this pre-ECIS (I have seen this behavior on many other cars
with stock air boxes, though). SOUND AT HIGH RPM: Really nice!
Again the sound is not loud. Quite frankly with all the talk
about hiss and engine roar, etc. I found the thing to be much
quieter than I was expecting. The sound comes alive above
4500 rpm. The engine has a nice subdued "throaty metallic
sound" that is quite pleasant. I found myself turning the
radio off and just listening to the engine. I drove around
for nearly 2 hours just listening to the engine!
PERFORMANCE: No real detectable difference until at
least 4500 rpm. I notice the engine gets a little boost above
4500 and does not plateau above 5000 rpm like it did before.
It is not a huge change. I noticed a bigger differnce with
the Shark injector probably because the software seemed to
give the biggest boost at the mid-rev range (2500-5000) and
that is were you spend most of your time driving. To really
feel any differnce with the intake you need to wind it up
past 4500. I have to say the Shark injector & intake are a
nice combo snce one opens up the low to mid-range (injector)
while the other (CAI) opens up at the high end. I find the
car much more fun to drive.

Hi
Kenny,
I installed your intake kit on my M Coupe in about 1 hour...
very straight foreward ... good instructions . . . after a long
fast 1/2 hour drive I stuck my hand into the engine room and
then the heat shield. The heat shield really fulfills it's function
!! Much more than I thought it would. I chalked the top sealer
hose on the shield and closed the hood to mark the seals contact
with the hood. Perfect Fit !! The reason I got rid of the Dinan
intake system is because it seemed too vulnerable to water and
road dirt. I am very glad I did because I discovered the shoddy/criminal
way it was installed. The Dinan air filter looks like it was
crushed in a vice to make installation easier .. and.. the clamp
wasn't tightened at all ... and ... The rubber flange on the
filter had a 1" long hole in it where it had been rubbing against
something. I'm not sure what exactly to do about it besides
confronting the Shop that installed it. Anyway, now I can drive
in the Seattle rain with confidence.

(Brad) am in love all over with my M3. Thank you Sean for a
great product!! The sound that comes from under my hood now
is amazing. The throttle response feels good and cannot wait
for my next track event to decrease my lap times with the increased
exit speeds. The cover plate looks great and is a very nice
final touch to this great product. I am just sorry I waited

I
installed the ECIS heatshield this week-on my 1994 325is.
I just wanted to e-mail you guys and let you know how great
I think your product is!!! I never thought that it would make
that much of a difference. I thought that the heatshield would
be a great compliment to my AutoThority Carbon Fiber FloTech
for the summertime. But...wow. I know it wasn't just a psychological
perception from the sound because I have had my intake for
years. I could actually feel more punch. It reminds me of
the way may car feels when I drive it in the wintertime in
the cooler air. I also bought the intake cover, and the setup
looks just great under the hood! Thanks for re-sparking the
love affair with my car!!!!!

I
just installed the ECIS intake. It took me two hours, primarily
because the rubber knob at the bottom did not exactly line
up with the shield, and I kept undoing the screws to try and
line it up. It's still not quite right, but good enough. Should
have taken no more than an hour, even for the mechanically
challenged. Instructions are pretty good. Install tip: The
screws near the radiator that you attach the shield to - BEFORE
you remove them, put a rag or something in the hole directly
below them. After fishing dropped screws out with a magnet
on a stick three times, I finally wised up and put the rag
underneath to catch them. DEFINITELY get the universal joint
for your ratchet. You spent $225 on the intake, spend another
$3-5 on the universal and make it easier on yourself. How's
it look? Who the fuck cares? I've seen posts where the guy
buys the Dinan CAI to "look cool," but I buy mods to go faster.
If this works, and I have money left over for something else,
well then it helps me go even faster than the "cool-looking"
but more expensive mod. Very few people look under my hood,
this ain't a show car. (but that cone filter is ENORMOUS,
it should be shorter). Driving impressions: I started the
car and could not tell any difference. Then I drove a bit
to warm it up, totally silent. After warming it up, I floored
it. Still, barely audible, until 4000 rpm, then out comes
this snarling rip that climbs with the RPMs. Between 6000
and redline, it sounds like somebody put a F1 engine under
your hood!! Holy crap! I have stock exhaust, so it's all intake
noise. Amazing how quiet that stock airbox is, those BMW engineers
did a great job of silencing it. This is the perfect stealth
mod. Below 4000 rpm you don't hear it at all. Part throttle
above 4000 and it's still pretty quiet, your girlfriend will
never know. But go to WOT anywhere over 4000 and look out,
here comes the Schumacher F1 car! And you can easily undo
it anytime to sell the car or pass emissions inspection. I've
read posts that say "the car SOUNDS faster." I thought those
were dumb until I got this thing, it DOES sound faster. (I'm
the only idiot driving around in the rain with his windows
down today). The butt dyno feels faster too, especially throttle
response is improved, air is instantly available. I really
like it so far, I can't wait to get it into a quiet tunnel
with the windows down! This was well worth the money.

Right
off the bat, I would like to thank ECIS for there excellent
customer service. I appreciate knowing the fact that I can actually
talk to someone who knows what they're talking about and not
just a "customer service representative". First of all, the
installation was a "breeze". It only took me about 30 minutes
to install, and I was taking my sweet time. After installing
it, I just stood there, in awe, for about five minutes staring
at the end result. It looks perfect; like it belongs there.
I then said to myself, "what am I waiting for, I gots to go
out for a drive". I drove around for a while nice and easy,
like I normally do, but then after about 15 minutes, I floored
it!!!! Man, I never seen my rpm's move so quick, along with
my car. I can actually say, that I felt a very noticeable difference
in torque and acceleration. And as for the sound, basically
it "growls" and doesn't "whine" like some other intakes I've
heard. It's just plain awesome, and probably the most least
difficult performance modification that you will install on
your E46.
Thank you again ECIS, especially Sean, for all your time.

I
would just like to comment on the excellent service and the
intake itself. After using it for about 6 months now, I love
it. The sound is deep and mean. It is even louder than my Remus
exhaust. The sales representative at Wheel Power (distributor
of Hamann products) also liked the design and everything. He
was very impressed with the product. I am not sure if you aware,
but a shop in Boston did a comparison between the ECIS and JC
intake. The site is http://www.b-p-g.com/ Anyway, I will recommend
to all bimmer enthusiast I meet in college next year to buy
this product.
Thanks again,

Kenny,
I got the shield as promised and installed it last week. I want
to thank you for this product. Before I installed the shield,
I would get pinging under heavy load with my unsheilded intake.
Obviously, the hot intake gases were overheating the charge.
Since the shield has been installed, I get no pinging and increased
power even with 90+ F degrees and the air running. The intake
temp is ambient with no appreciable temp rise.
Thanks,
Paul

I
just put in my intake from East Coast last weekend. The materials
are of excellent quality, they were exceedingly responsive
to my rather inane pestering and questions (I must have e-mailed
them 20 times with questions regarding the thing, they always
responded promptly). I would say they delivered a quality
product. The sound is AWESOME at WOT. A very serious ROAR.
Installed in about 30 min, less if you know what you're doing.
I have no idea if it made a difference. I think so, but my
butt may not be quite sensitive enough... Based upon other
folk's tested results, I did it and I'm happy.

For
everyone who has been waiting for a cold air intake for the
dual vanos 2.8 engine the wait is over. I just had an ECIS
unit installed yesterday in my 99 2.8 coupe. Sorry no dyno
results yet but after 100+ miles I can say the following;
WOW. Much quicker throttle response, particularly in 3rd,4th,and
5th gear. In 1st and 2nd had to be careful not to hit the
rev limiter. Intake noise at cruising speeds is only marginally
louder. Fuel economy also seems a little better, as normally
1/4 tank (from full) goes 75-85 miles. With the ECIS I've
gone 110 miles and still have a little over to 3/4 of a tank
left. Kenny Bernatzky is also a real pleasure to deal with.
Check it out...

Wow!!!
Did I say WOWWWW???...Before I got my M3, I had a turbocharged
'95 Volvo850 Turbo...I aftermarketed that baby all the way up
to 275 hp. When I traded it in for my '99 M3, while I felt the
M3 was faster, there was something about the 'wheeee' feeling
of a turbo which is missing....NOT ANY LONGER! I'm very impressed
with this system....After the install, during my test drive,
I kept wanting to get out of the car to check if the intake
had come off, such was the power increase, and engine growl,
which is a completely different, and unexpected sound, but very
in keeping with the newfound power....You really realize just
how restrictive the stock intake is after its allowed to breathe..
And just as I read in some of the other comments, the whole
assembly in front of the shield is cold to the touch...behind
it, its damn hot....So, yes, it really keeps everything in place,
and solves the problem of turbulent and hot air.

Upon
my arrival at Summit Point, WV; I anxiously awaited the arrival
of the "East Coast Induction Systems" personnel to install
the "production prototype" shielded cone system in my 97 M3. I
got to the track in plenty of time and temperatures would
be in the high 90 's both days with humidity in the 80% range.
I put took my students out for track orientation and later
went out for the instructor session with my B group student
sitting in the passenger seat. I have been driving Summit
Point for the last 6 years and know the track well. My training
as a helicopter pilot instructor told me that consistency
was important. Well, I was paying special attention to my
indicated exit speeds at three (3) locations on the track.
The three locations were the (1) end of the front straight,(2)
uphill crest after turn 3 before the chute and (3) uphill
after turn 9 before the bridge. Below you will see my speeds
noted after two sessions without the new shielded cone intake.
Traction control off when on track.
1) 115-117 mph
2) 82-85 mph
3) 75-80 mph
Sean Cain, arrived after my first two sessions. He proceed
to quickly install the intake system from East Coast Induction
Systems, I noted the following in the instructor sessions
and student rides that I gave:
1) 117-120 mph (required shift to 5th, never got fast enough
before)
2) 85-90 mph
3) 80-87 mph (now required to early shift to 4th to avoid
hitting rev limit, DME is still stock)
I pulled into the pits and raised the hood and did a simple
touch test of the tube. Hmm, "cool" to the touch on the cone
side of the shield and hot as Hades on the engine side. Wish
I had a temperature gauge, but hell, who cares. The car just
seemed to "breath" better. It was like a runner with a stuffy
nose getting a inhaler to clear to his sinuses. But, I spoke
with Duane Collie about my experience and he thinks I was
just driving better, he thinks without a flash of the OBD
II DME, no gains are possible. Well, if my mental attitude
was changed by the simple installation of the kit and gave
me that addition speed, I'll take it. I believe, however,
that this system really does work, at least at the track!
For me, that's where it counts.

I
just wanted to post my findings with the East Coast Induction
System heat shield. In a word, "AWESOME". I can't begin to
say how pleased I am with their heat shield. I will say this
though, it does make a difference! I just installed the heat
shield and ran the *&%! out of my 95 M3. I noticed first
that the throttle noise is reduced (I'm "cool" with that)
but the gears pulled hard without hesitation unlike prior
to installing the shield, on a humid summer day. I do have
the Active Autoworker chip, so I feel like I've gained even
more power. Secondly, I know it works. I did the touch test.
The filter was scorching hot prior to the install. After installing
the shield and running the car hard, the cone filter was cool
to the touch. So, thank you ECIS for making such an affordable
and effective product

Hi
Folks, Well, I finally got my ECIS Intake kit after organizing
the group purchase for the last two weeks. Arrived today with
the K&N Cone, custom heat shield, some mountings brackets,
and bolts and stuff. Oh, and installation sheet with some colored
pictures. Installation: The instructions were very clear. It
took me a short while to figure out the names of the different
parts that were associated with the installation. Once I got
it, I took the air box out and air duct and followed the instructions
on putting the intake kit in. Took me about 1.5 hours. I didn't
know the air temperature sensor were the two hose like things
at the bottom of the air box, so I put the air box back in,
and drove back to make a phone call to ECIS. But, before they
could get back to me, I knew that was the air temp sensor so
I went back out to do the install again. That's what cost me
about 25 minutes or so in the 1.5 hour time that I spent on
installation. The quality of the cone bracket, custom heat shield,
and mounting equipment are all very high. The shield and the
cone bracket are made really well, and looks very professional.
I think I'm saying too much, so on to the test drive. Immediately,
the induction noise is very apparent. After some acceleration
runs, I noticed that the induction noise is loudest between
2k rpm and 3.5k rpm. Below 2k rpm is the mean deep throaty growl
of my ES Tuning exhaust. Above 3.5k rpm is the roar of my exhaust
taking over. I can best describe the induction noise like a
rattle snake living inside the engine. It's a kind of scream-roar
that sounds like a rapid "dah dah dah dah dah dah..." It's really
hard to explain, but you'll understand it once you get a free
flowing intake. It sounds mean. Before the kit, the engine sounds
like it's breathing through a thick layer of cloths. With the
intake kit, it sounds like the engine is set free to scream
and sing. The inline-6 does sound majestic. After a short drive,
I pulled over and opened the hood. The air on the engine side
of the heat shield is significantly warmer than the side where
the intake cone is. There is a little bit of gain in hp between
2k-3.5k as I felt it in the seats. But, don't expect a 200hp
gain. When you step on the gas pedal, the engine seems to be
working easier to rev from 1k to past 4k. Anyway, I don't work
for ECIS. Just a happy customer.

After
having the ECIS Euro HFM setup in my car for several months
now I must say that I am 100% satisfied with it. The performance
gain over my old Akimoto/US HFM setup is very noticeable. The
car exhibits much more power through the RPM band especially
in the top end. The quality of the components are superb and
the heat shield really does do its job... that huge 9 inch K&N
filter remains cool to the touch. The level of ECIS's support
and service is exemplary, which to me is a very important quality.
All that coupled with a price that is nearly half that of the
competition makes this, in my opinion, the best that's out there.
If your looking for an intake for your car look no further.

I
purchased a ECIS shield used from someone who was installing
a turbocharger in his car. I had a question about the install,
and e-mailed ECIS about it. Even though they had no financial
interest because I didn't buy the product from them, I had
a response in under 20 minutes! I don't get that kind of service
from people that I buy stuff from! Nice job! The quality of
the product is good - and so is the price. I think I've gained
some throttle response, especially at lower RPMs. And the
sound at WOT is simply awesome. It really does keep the intake
side cool. A great "bang-for-the-buck" upgrade - I'd highly
recommend it.

First
of all, I want to thank everyone at ECIS for their great customer
service an extremely friendly one on one attention. Great company!
I received my ECIS Evolution Air Intake system last week and
I am thrilled with the results. The installation was simple
and the instructions could not have been anymore clear. Every
detail was covered so there was no room or possibilities for
mistakes. The materials were packaged well and of excellent
quality. My install took me about 35 minutes on my 93 325is.
It looks awesome! But looks are only the tip of the iceberg.
When I first started the car up, I instantly fell in love with
the new, deeper sound of the engine. Once I hit the road is
when the real fun started though. The sound of the car was amazing
as it climbs through the rpms, and the pull is fantastic! At
about 3300 rpms, your but gets plastered to the back of the
seat and the engine roars like never before. If you are just
casually diving, the sound is hardly noticeable though. This
is great, because my girlfriend isn 't exactly one who can be
impressed by a loud engine. But even she liked the sound when
I showed off for her a bit. hehehee I am pleased beyond my greatest
expectations with this intake system and equally pleased with
the people of ECIS. When I called to check on my order, the
gentleman who answered the phone remembered who I was as soon
as I told him where it was going and even let me know exactly
when he had sent it out. Service like that is had to find these
days. It 's nice to hear a human voice when you call a company
phone line. Thank you very much for all of your assistance and
for manufacturing such a great product!

price. It all started back in March of 99 when I began speaking
with Sean about their plans to produce and market a Cold Air
Intake (CAI). After just a few conversations I knew this guy
was sincerely a true enthusiast and I told him I wanted the
first prototype on my car. I began pestering Sean as the Solo
II season fast approached as to when he could ship it. Well
that paid off just two weeks before the first BMW event of
the season! So one day in early April it arrived. I had it
put on at the same time as the ART under drive pulley. Two
hours later it 's time to turn the key and see what metamorphous
had occurred. My 98 M3/4 had already been sharked (thanks
JC!) and when I dropped the pedal at 2K the low end torque
increase was amazing! It also was very apparent that I now
had an engine that pulled from 2K to redline with no peaks,
or valleys. Talk about a turbine Inline 6! So I show up to
the first BMW Solo II event and proudly show off my new CIA.
Well what turned heads all day was the sound this piece of
art produced! People were asking me what aftermarket exhaust
I had on the car & &Sorry, no exhaust in the near
future for this M3! Why would I want to drown out the wonderful
intake music at WOT this $199 investment produced. It 's real
difficult not to drop the hammer just to hear the intake sound.Heck
I would have bought the intake just for the sounds it makes
:-). BTW I 've been running K & N filters since 1985 and
have racked up 400K+ miles as a very satisfied customer. I
've had my oil analyzed several times especially in some of
my higher mileage cars to make sure everything was within
spec. I clean my K & N every 5K to 10K depending on the
type of driving I do. I also purchase a new one every 30-45K.
This regimen has worked well for me. I also over the last
seven years have tested several Mars's and intake systems
for the car club I used to run as President. I 'm new to BMW
's, but am shocked as to the restriction the OEM Air box produces
on the BMW &.. This upgrade is easy to install, easy to
maintain, gives you about 10 peak HP at the flywheel and of
course is easy on your checkbook! Need I say more?
Regards,
Steve Hazard

I
just installed your intake system this past weekend and have
to say I was very pleased with the fit and finish of your product.
It was well engineered and constructed and fit very well, unlike
some other products I've worked with in the past. Your detailed
instructions were a big help. Throttle response is slightly
improved and the sound at wide open throttle is great.
Thanks for making a product that actually performs as advertised!
